Attract Targeted Visitors to Your Site: How To
by Jan Ashby
I presume you began your online business in order to make money, right? Okay, well you’re going to have a much better chance of being successful if you market to those people who are SPECIFICALLY interested in your particular product (or service). Meaning your “target market”.
I’ll give you a sample of what I mean:
Imagine that you run a dog training website (and you prefer poodles) so you wouldn’t want to do seo optimization to attract the wrong crowd – say Pit Bull lovers! No indeed – you want to try and select “buyer keywords” that are very specific, and then add related keywords to the mix.
SAMPLE: training miniature poodles
This is the concept of a “targeted visitor” – a person who is already into your website’s topic before they find your website and see the products and services you offer. With this in mind, what might be an LSI keyword (related keyword) for this topic? Google says, “toy poodle training“.
With a Targeted Visitor, You’re Halfway There
It’s not hard to deduce WHY the most successful online businesses are those whose traffic is chiefly made up of individuals who are already interested in the products or services offered by that business. So, as you can see, it’s essential to your success that you create your videos and your individual website pages to contain and focus on the individual keywords that relate to your product or service. If you can, pinpoint
buyer keywords
to use.
Buyer keywords are those that indicate that an online shopper is fairly FAR along in the shopping process – thus, when someone searches on “how to train your poodle“, he/she is much deeper into the shopping experience than somebody who simply types, “poodle”. This was an example of a
longtail keyword
(how to train your poodle) – the LONGTAIL KEYWORD is valuable to use and understand (it’s Beginners WordPress 101).
Also, it’s highly likely that your appearances on a given search results page in Google (or Bing) won’t be limited only to pages of your own blog or website. No indeed – you will also appear in Web 2.0 websites (Youtube, Squidoo, Tumblr, Scribd, HubPages) and directories (and some forums, hopefully). One of the big search engines is likely to locate and publish many quality “external” resources you have created. These will include marketing-type materials that you’ve published through social sites, as well as document-sharing sites (Scribd, esnips.com, e-library.net, Calameo.com, yuyu.com, and the famous Docstoc).
So, here’s a list of some of the more popular web 2.0 sharing sites I use:
- Tumbl’r
- Edublogs.org
- WordPress.com
- Live Journal
- Insane Journal
- Weebly
- SCRIBD
- Wikidot, Wikihow, Wikipedia
- Google +

High-End Buyer: How do You Advertise Online to These People?
By setting up your funnel, you will be able to locate the
high-end buyer
That is, by setting up your autoresponder properly, you will have a “funnel” in place. To explain further, you will have a
back-end offer
set up (at least 2, an upsell and a downsell) for the
high-end buyers
who have the money to commit to coaching (or a high-end course) – so, email marketing is one way to present DOWNSELLS and Upsells. There are other ways too – such as a back end offer.
If you’d like to understand the basics on setting up an autoresponder, and Upsells & Downsells, Ewen Chia explains it quite well in his book, How I Made My First Million on the Internet and How You Can To – I’ve read it – and it helped me grasp the concepts.
Keywords Research Explained – An Introduction
Now for a little experiment – go to Google and enter a generic search term or phrase. Odds are that near the top of the search engine results, there will be links to external aggregation sites such as YouTube and EzineArticles. Take note of the many “Web 2.0 sites” I have listed on the page, as you’ll undoubtedly want to use these to, in order to gain exposure and links for your blog or website.
Okay, so.. (in order to ensure you’re receiving the greatest number of targeted visitors to your site) you first need to create a site in which each web page is well- focused – on the longtail keyword phrases you’ll identify. It is a good idea to map out your blog site structure first; you can either use bubble.us (a great tool) or some other mindmapping tool.
WordPress for Beginners: Your First Blog !
Once you’ve published your blog, you’ll be supporting this effort by coming up with branding ideas and new promotional materials (using the relevant keyword terms or
buyer keywords
you’ve finalized). To keep track of how specific pages of your blog are performing, you’ll want to USE a tool such as “What’s My Rank” (or some other tracking tool). Please note that What’sMyRank is a wordpress plugin (paid plugin).
*Note: Once you’ve published your first blog, remember to submit it to the major search engines . You can also submit to directories – and if they’re in your niche, all the better !
Microsoft has the Bing search engine and the address is: http://www.bing.com/docs/submit.aspx
Yahoo’s search engine: http://search.yahoo.com/
GOOGLE search engine is here: http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl
Don’t expect it to be instantaneous. Your site will get indexed, but I know that with Yahoo & Bing , it took a bit of time before I began to SEE any of my web pages show up.
Good Luck with your new blog !
