On-Page SEO: 3 Tips to Improve Your Blog’s Basic Infrastructure
There are 3 aspects of on-page seo I need to tell you about. The purpose of this is so your wordpress blog will rank higher (isn’t that what we all want?)
- Alt-tag’s seo
- No-Follow tags
- Permalinks and SEO
First Up: Handling Alt Tags Seo
Okay, so why is alt tags seo significant? Well, it informs the big search engines what your picture, or photo, is concerning – i.e., what it’s about. And that’s one of the most worthwhile things to do, to get your blog optimized for a search engine like Google. You can read more on it HERE .
When you add descriptive tags, it doesn’t involve any coding – so don’t be alarmed. No, instead you perform an adjustment AFTER you’ve put an image on your blog. You should definitely try keeping the “alt tag description” short, though, as this causes your pages to be smaller and smaller pages download faster. When wouldn’t you use any “alt tag” description at all? Well, primarily with Bullets or small icons – yet here, instead of just leaving it blank altogether– better to use this:<img src=”bullet.gif” alt=” ” />
- Far better to enter this (a blank alt attribute) than to omit it – and when it comes to
on-page seo
you don’t want to confuse the “spiders” or search engines!
- Extra Note: It’s worthwhile to know that performing your
alt tag’s seo
is an adjustment you need to make so that your website will be more readily accessible to visually impaired people who are using text readers. It emphasizes what your blog material is about, and can REALLY help a person who is scanning large amounts of data.
Hey, you want to make all your blog visitors happy, right??
Noteworthy: One thing you don’t want to do is make ALL of your Alt-tags descriptions identical. When it comes to your alt tag’s SEO, mix it up some.
No-Follow Tags: What is Best for Your Blog?
ANother thing you can do for your blog is to make some of your outbound links have “no-follow” tags. Initially, the nofollow
attribute was used to instruct the search engines as to what external links should not be followed. Today there are more uses for it; for example, if a webmaster allows a guest poster to create a write-up and the webmaster does not fully trust the article writer, he can make the hyperlinks have no-follow tags.
Some of Your External (Outbound) Links Should Be Do-Follow
You should not be afraid to link out to authority blogs (ones with Page Rank) with a Do-Follow link. These days, you want your linking to look NATURAL; it is my belief you should not try to “game” the system. Good content will be rewarded, in the end. 😎
Still, for your affiliate links (and links to sales pages, or CPA offers), you should make these have the “No-follow” attribute. You can easily do this, when you employ the use of Tiny MCE Advanced editor (a plug-in). Click the “Insert/Edit link” icon, and then click on “Advanced”. From here, use the dropdown menu and select “relationship page to target”; choose “No-follow” & now hit “Update”.
If you don’t have the time to check all the comments (and their links) inside your wordpress dashboard, then in this case you might want to adjust them so they contain No-follow tags. One benefit of invoking no-follow tags at your blog is that when spammers scout for a new wordpress blog they can attack, they may well bypass your particular blog when they find out it has the no-follow tags sprinkled throughout.
To read more about the no-follow tags subject, you can visit Google webmasters site . And by the way, that hyperlink is “no-follow” (LOL) !
Permalink Structure: Understanding Permalinks and SEO
Your permalink structure can be modified within your wordpress dashboard, so that your blog will be better optimized for your choice of keyword. This will enhance your on-page seo. You see, by default wordpress provides you an url with a number in it (instead of say, a keyword phrase).
Permalinks and Seo
So naturally, we prefer to alter the default permalink structure to something which will be beneficial, in terms of search engine optimization.
Change the ‘Category/Post-Title’ Permalinks
In order to change the default permalink structure, you need to go to “Settings -> Permalinks” in your admin panel. Find “Settings” below “Users” and “Tools” on the Left hand side of your dashboard. Then, mouse over SETTINGS, and it will be the 7th one. Click on it; you’ll see “Common Settings” (6th one down). Select that Radio button (custom structure), and you’re set.
These days, it is advantageous to set permalinks up this way:
/%year%/%postname%/
Your blog visitors will be able to find a post by its keywords, so long as you title the post correctly (with your vital keywords).
- On-Page SEO: Permalinks and Seo, No-Follow Tags e.g.
- I think you can see that it is good idea to make use of permalink structure options (within Settings) to set it up the way we want it. When it comes to “permalinks and seo“, we want to make it work for us. Do the proper on-page seo by placing no-follow tags on your site, invoking your “alt tags”, and changing your permalinks structure.
